Academic Decathlon Regional Results

Acadeca Regionals

Congratulations to the 2018-2019 Lourdes Central Catholic School Academic Decathlon team for an outstanding showing at their Regionals competition on January 19. The team placed first in the Very Small Schools category and will be advancing to State February 15 and 16 in Omaha.

 

The 2018-2019 Academic Decathlon team members include seniors Piper Monson, Chloe DuBois, Grant Draus, and Cristian Watkins; juniors Luke Partsch, Cathy Shawhan, Ethan Roberts, and Matthew Roettger; and sophomores Paul Shawhan, Olivia Weninger, Kameron Monahan, and Jazmin Rodriguez. Students from all grade levels are tested across the curriculum under the umbrella of a theme that changes each year. The theme they are studying this year is the 1960s.

The Lourdes Academic Decathlon team earned 68 individual medals at Regionals in six subject area (31 Gold, 24 Silver, 13 Bronze). Paul Shawhan was the Top Scorer for the team.

Earning medals for the main team were, from the HONORS Division (‘A’ average students), Luke Partsch and Cathy Shawhan. Partsch took gold in Science, Economics, and Math, and earned silver in Art and Literature. Shawhan earned gold in Art and Literature, silver in Math, and bronze in Economics. Partsch and Shawhan tied for silver in Music.

Main team SCHOLASTIC (‘B’ average) students were Ethan Roberts and Piper Monson. Roberts earned gold in Art, Music, and Economics and silver in Math and Science. Monson took silver in Art and Music and bronze in Math, Science, and Economics. Roberts and Monson tied for gold in Literature.

Main team VARSITY (‘C’ average) students were Grant Draus and Jazmin Rodriguez. Draus earned gold in Literature, Math, Science, and Economics, silver in Art, and bronze in Music. Rodriguez earned gold in Art, silver in Literature, and bronze in Math and Science.

Alternate team members for the Honors Division were Paul Shawhan and Olivia Weninger. Shawhan took gold in all six subjects and Weninger followed with all silvers. Scholastic alternates were Kameron Monahan and Chloe DuBois. Monahan earned gold in Math and Economics, silver in Art, Music, and Literature, and bronze in Science. DuBois earned gold in Art and Literature, silver in Science, and bronze in Music and Math. Varsity alternates were Cristian Watkins and Matthew Roettger. Watkins earned gold in Art, Music, Math, and Economics and silver in Science. Roettger took home silver in Art and Math and bronze in Music, Science, and Economics. Watkinds and Roettger tied for gold in Literature.
