Bishop Blesses New Addition
Bishop James Conley of the Diocese of Lincoln blessed the new addition to the school on May 14, 2014. He also celebrated Mass and consecrated the altar of the new Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes immediately after the public blessing ceremony.
The whole student body as well as many benefactors and members of the community gathered in the gymnasium for the blessing ceremony. The Bishop spoke to the students about the history that they have witnessed not only at Lourdes, but in the Church as well. He said that he will always have a fond place in his heart for Lourdes, because it was on February 11, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes that Pope Benedict announced his retirement. Bishop Conley had already planned to celebrate Mass for the school community on that day.
Father McCabe, the superintendent of Lourdes, also addressed the school community. He expressed his gratitude to the building committee, the school board, benefactors, and all others that helped make this day possible. He also asked for prayers so that the final phase of the project, the primary building, may be completed.
The new addition includes a competition gymnasium, performing arts theater, band room, administrative area, chapel and two new classrooms. The total cost of the upgrades was $8.5 million, which was only part of the entire $12.5 million project. Lourdes has also raised nearly $2 million for the teacher incentive pay fund and is still raising the final $2 million that will pay for the primary building addition at the St. Benedict site.
