Dr. Dean Thomson visited Lourdes Central Catholic School on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2013.   He spoke to the students about the history of Veterans Day and the sacrifices made not only by our military but their families also.

Dr. Thomson is a family physician who recently celebrated his 40th year of practicing medicine in Nebraska City.  Not only is he saving lives in Nebraska City, he is also a Colonel in the United States Army Reserves.  He joined the Reserves in 1992 after his twin sons were accepted into West Point Military Academy.  Dr. Thomson has been deployed four times in the past 21 years and has worked to keep our troops safe and healthy.

Originally from the area, Dr. Thomson graduated high school from Syracuse.  He played the lead in his high school musical, "Brigadoon", and was a star basketball player.  Dr. Thomson loves to sing and is a founding member of the Nebraska City Apple Corp and sings in the United Methodist Church Choir.  He is a lifelong season ticket holder for the Nebraska Cornhusker football team.  Dr. Thomson and his wife, Keitha, have participated in various mission projects all over the world, including a year-long stint in India and annual trips to a medical mission clinic in Jamaica.  Dr. Thomson has a daughter Tammy Thomson Partsch, who teaches Art at Lourdes Central Catholic.
