Art Show Winners!
Kaylee Easter, Taylor Bequette, and Emily Marcotte display some of the winning artwork.
"Alice" by Taylor Bequette
The Pioneer Conference held its annual Art Competition February 6-8 at Prichard Auditorium in Falls City. The exhibit featured works from middle school and high school students from throughout the Pioneer Conference. The exhibit coincided with the Pioneer Conference Girls and Boys Basketball Tournament finals, also held at Prichard Auditorium the same weekend.
Eleven students from Lourdes Central Catholic in Nebraska City entered works in the competition, with three students receiving special recognition.
Taylor Bequette, a senior, received Honorable Mention Best in Show for her watercolor titled “Alice.” Renee Marcotte, 10th grade, won first place in the Mixed Media category with her untitled paper layering piece. Junior Kaylee Easter took third place in the Mixed Media category with her paper layering piece titled “Waves.”
Bequette’s “Alice” was taken directly from the Pioneer Conference Art Competition to the Scholastic Art Awards competition in Omaha where it received a Gold Key honor. Bequette entered two other watercolors in the Scholastic competition; “Pet Shop” also received a Gold Key and “Tree House” earned a Silver Key. Both Gold Key works are up for consideration for the national Scholastic competition. Bequette’s work, along with more than 1,000 others from high school art students around the state, will be on display at the OPS Teacher Administrative Center in Omaha from February 24-March 19. It is open to the public.
