History Day 2012

Middle School Participates in National History Day

History DayLourdes Middle School sixth and eighth graders have been participating in National History Day for the past 10 years, and each year we continue to grow and be quite successful at the district level held at Peru State College. This year was no exception.

The National History Day (NHD) program inspires students to study local history, and then challenges them to expand their thinking and apply knowledge of local events to the national or even worldwide scene. The program also teaches students to become technologically literate through the use of computer and Internet research methods, and the use of technologically advanced applications in their presentations.

Students begin researching at the start of each school year, and by the second semester they choose a medium and begin developing a project to meet the theme.  The sixth graders are required to develop an exhibit and the eighth grade may branch out and choose from one of the five mediums: exhibit, paper, documentary, performance, or web site.

Districts were held at Peru State on February 29, 2012 and Lourdes had several projects advance to State which will be held at Wesleyan University on April 21, 2012.
