MUDECAS Speech 2012
Lourdes Has Strong Showing at MUDECAS
|by Jackson Christians|
The speech team at Lourdes is alive, well and very popular. This year’s team is bigger and stronger than ever. The speech team has a category for everyone to compete in no matter what their interest. They are: OID (oral interpretation of drama), duet, poetry, serious prose, humorous prose, informative, entertainment, persuasive and extemporaneous. Most of our students want to compete in OID’s and Duet because they are fun and can be hysterically funny.
Coach Sally DuBois is at the helm again and the team is thriving under her leadership. There is a tremendous amount of teamwork and cohesiveness on the team. If Mrs. DuBois can’t help someone with their speech, the seniors step in to help as needed. These veteran team members critique and present additional ideas for their team mates speeches. As an added bonus, Fr. Mitchell has stepped in to help coach this year.
The speech team will compete in seven meets this year. The first one was the MUDECAS speech meet where our group made a very strong showing. Mrs. DuBois said, “I was excited when we got there.” When Mrs. DuBois heard that Lourdes was just one point away from second she said, “If we would have had Colby McGinley there, we would have got second place instead of third.” She added jokingly, “So we will just have to blame him for that.”
This success story didn’t just appear overnight. The strength of the team lies in the experience of the numerous returning medal winners from previous years as well as the dedication of the students and coaches. They are looking to have another great year.
